Nasa imagery shows snow across the UK
Last night was the coldest of the year for England (Benson, Oxfordshire dropped to -7.6C), Wales (Pembrey Sands -6.7C), and Northern Ireland (Katesbridge -8.8C) but the lowest temperature of 2014 was recorded in Cromdale, in the Highlands of Scotland, where it fell to -9C on Saturday night.
These temperatures are not unusual for the time of year - and the clear, crisp, cold conditions of the last couple of days has ensured much of the snow that fell late on Boxing Day remains across higher ground and hill tops.
The clear skies allowed this NASA satellite image to be snapped yesterday - showing Boxing Day snow still lying across the Pennines, north Midlands, Northern Ireland and Scotland - and with very cold air with us for the next 48 hours the snow is likely to stick around until New Years Eve. Any melting from bright winter sunshine by day, will refreeze to become icy overnight.
