The X Factor winner Ben Haenow has won the battle for this year's Christmas number one.

The 29-year-old's single Something I Need sold 214,000 copies since its release on Sunday night making the former van driver the seventh winner of the ITV contest to gain a festive chart-topper.

Haenow, who won this year's X Factor with 57% of the public vote, told OfficialCharts.com he was "absolutely shocked" when he was told he won.

He added: "To have even been in the running for Christmas number one against some of the names that were in the race, and then to have actually won is incredible. It's an incredible end to my year."

The official announcement of Haenow's chart success is yet another dream come true for the singer as earlier this week he said he would love to finish 2014 with a Christmas No. 1.

As well as securing the top chart position Something I Need has also officially become the second-fastest selling single of the year behind Band Aid 30's Do They Know It's Christmas? after beating the likes of Mark Ronson's Uptown Funk FT Bruno Mars tonight.
