Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane says he would be happy to meet Sir Alex Ferguson to get the apology he is waiting for.

The Republic of Ireland assistant manager fell out with Ferguson when he was forced to leave the club in 2005.

If Ferguson were to say sorry, Keane says he would be happy to settle the issue and move on.

Asked if he would go for a pint with Ferguson, Keane told FourFourTwo: "Well, it would be a cup of tea. If Sir Alex apologises, then yes, I would.

"If Ferguson apologises I would be happy to move on... for Ferguson to bad-mouth me after I left, I think he does owe me an apology."

He added: "It was never going to end as a pal's act. I was never going to leave with champagne and flowers."

Keane believes that he and other captains were treated poorly by Ferguson when leaving Old Trafford.

"I saw how Bryan Robson and Steve Bruce left the club, both decent United captains, and I didn't like the way they left."

The ex-Aston Villa assistant manager isn't too worried about the rift between the two, focusing on his achievements.

"If United fans say I had a decent career, then brilliant," he said. "If they want to say, 'What's gone on with Ferguson stuff?' Then f*** them."
