The Cardiff City Supporters Trust has decided to withdraw former manager Malky Mackay's honorary membership as a result of the text scandal surrounding him.

Mackay, who took over at Wigan last week, was awarded the membership as a sign of gratitude for his achievements at Cardiff, where he won promotion to the Premier League in 2013.

The trust has been lobbied by anti-discrimination campaigners since an FA investigation was opened into a string of racist, sexist, homophobic and anti-Semitic texts exchanged between Mackay and his former head of recruitment at Cardiff, Iain Moody.

A statement on the Cardiff City Supporters' Trust website reads:

"The Trust is committed to working to bring together communities of all races and its partnership work with Show Racism the Red Card. The Trust, which has been commended for that work, abhors racism, sexism and homophobic behaviour in all its forms.

"With still no timetable for the FA to report, we have decided to withdraw Malky Mackay’s honorary membership of the Trust with immediate effect."
