Two students who wrote a sonnet to bosses at Tesco after their local store stopped selling their favourite popcorn were surprised when two months later they received a poetic reply.

Tomi Baikie, 18, and Isabelle Bousquette, 20, addressed the poem to the supermarket giant's chairman Sir Richard Broadbent in September after they couldn't find their favourite popcorn at their store in St Andrews.

The pair, who are students at St Andrews University, were surprised when they received a poetic reply from Tesco two months later.

Though Tesco had managed to spell Mr Baikie's name incorrectly and referred to him as a woman.

The reply, which came from the chairman's office and included a £10 voucher, thanked the pair for their poem and apologised that they had discontinued their favourite treat at that particular store.

However it advised them that the popcorn could be bought in different stores.

Tomi told the Daily Record: "I would like to point out that I am surprised that, in their reply, Tesco have decided I am a woman.

"I'll be sending a haiku to bring this to their attention."
