Is the heavy snow in the US on its way here?

More snow has fallen in New York State overnight.

Exceptionally cold polar air has seeped into Canada and the north-east of the US in recent days.

The Buffalo region of New York State in the north-east (not the city of New York) has seen temperatures plummet to -15C and heavy snow has buried cars and buildings - more than 1.5 metres in places - the snow hugely enhanced by cold air passing over the waters of Lake Erie.

It's unusual to see such exceptionally cold and snowy conditions so early in the season but not unheard of.

We are not going to get such cold weather and snow here - such conditions wouldn't survive the journey across the Atlantic. As with the Polar Vortex which brought exceptional and record breaking cold to the US earlier this year - it will stay State Side.

Our cold air comes from the north (polar or arctic air) oreast (Scandinavian, Russian or Siberian air) rather than the west.
