Baroness Warsi criticised for remarks on Jerusalem synagogue attack
Former Foreign Office minister Baroness Warsi has been criticised for her response to the Jerusalem synagogue attack.
Following reports on the attack Warsi, the first Muslim to sit in Cabinet, tweeted about an earlier attack from Israeli extremists, stressing the need to see the murders in context of increased tensions across the divided city.
In another Tweet, she stressed the link between the two attacks.
Her remarks were quickly condemned by her replacement, Grant Shapps.
Jeremy Newmark, a former chief executive officer at the Jewish Leadership Council, said:
The President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews also dismissed the comparisons.
Baroness Warsi resigned from the government over its "morally indefensible" stance on Gaza in August.
In an article in the Huffington Post, she said she had received a number of emails about the "illegal and provocative" actions of Israelis at the Al Aqsa compound but said ministers had turned a blind eye to the issue.
