A British scientist working on the European Space Agency’s mission to land on a comet for the first time has built up a fanbase after appearing in interview rocking a multi-coloured shirt and an array of tattoos.

Rosetta Project scientist Dr Matt Taylor was reportedly told to cover his body art when speaking to the media in the past, but his appearance seems to have improved his popularity.

He was even trending on Twitter earlier today during the European Space Agency live stream, as people praised him for being “a proper cool scientist” and “definitely not boring”.

Among his ink is a tattoo on his leg showing the space probe landing on the comet, in a show of confidence the mission will be successful.

In interview, Dr Taylor talked about the landing - due to take place later today.

Dr Taylor studied at the University of Liverpool and Imperial College London, and has worked at the European Space Agency since 2005.
