Speaker hits out at 'sorry saga' over European Arrest Warrant

Speaker John Bercow was critical of the handling of today's vote on EU justice measures.

The debate on the European Arrest Warrant descended into farce this afternoon before it had even begun.

Speaker John Bercow said the measures being voted on did not include the warrant, which many rebel backbenchers oppose.

He said the fact that this was so had been "a rather sorry saga" which would be bad for the reputation of the House of the Commons.

Yvette Cooper, the shadow Home Secretary, who had demanded the Speaker clarify what was going on, then dismissed it as a 'shambles'
