A dog that sparked a huge social media campaign after he went missing has been found safe.

Jasper disappeared while walking with owner Adam Nolan at Cam Spout Crag, below Scafell Pike in the Lake District on Sunday afternoon.

Nolan's appeal to find Jasper was shared hundreds of thousands of times across Facebook, and a dedicated Facebook group was also set up with over 6,500 members.

The 'Find Jasper' hashtag was also widely shared across Twitter.

And the efforts paid off after a tip-off about a sighting led to the dog being found at 2am in a "very good condition" on Scafell Pike.

"I'm over the moon to announce the safe return of my best friend Jasper", Nolan said in a statement on Thursday.

After being reunited with his beloved dog, Nolan also appealed for donations to the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team.

He praised the volunteer-run group for their "heroic efforts" in rescuing Jasper.
