Sex-change DJ says 'it was death or transition' in first TV appearance since gender revelation

Stephanie Hirst, who presented Capital FM Yorkshire's hit breakfast show for 11 years before deciding to become a woman, made her first TV appearance today.

Stephanie, formerly Simon, announced her change of gender last month in an interview with BBC Radio Five Live.

She attracted more than 25,000 supporters calling for her to return to the airwaves in Yorkshire.

Speaking to ITV News Calendar, the 39-year-old said "It was either death or transition".

Earlier today the DJ appeared on Lorraine, where she discussed how she knew she was meant to be a girl from the age of eight.
