Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho admits he's powerless to stop Spain calling up Diego Costa
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho admits he's powerless to stop Spain calling up Diego Costa next week despite suggesting the striker needs "special care."
Costa has been nursing hamstring and groin problems this season, and missed Chelsea's last four matches after returning from international duty more than two weeks ago.
The Spain international is finally available for tomorrow's Premier League clash against QPR.
"He needs obviously to be again under special care," Mourinho explained.
Spain's FA hit back at suggestions from Mourinho that Costa's injury problems were aggravated on international duty, but the Portuguese manager insists he is supportive of players representing their countries.
"I'm always supportive of players playing for their countries when they are in conditions to do it, and when the players in the national teams follow the same kind of program to recover from the problems they have," he said.
"I'm nobody to stand in the way of national teams. I cannot stop him going."
Spain play Belarus in a Euro 2016 qualifier on November 15th before hosting Germany three days later in a friendly.
