Dylan Thomas stands the test of time a century on

Celebrations have been held to mark the birth of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas 100 years ago.

Dylan Thomas might have had a reputation as a hellraiser, but 100 years after his birth his brilliant poetry has more than stood the test of time.

The verses of Under Milk Wood remain among the best known words written in the past century.

Celebrations have been held here and in the United States to mark his centenary.

Sir Ian McKellen was among some 200 performers involved in a marathon performance of Thomas's work, which is perhaps more popular now than ever before.
