Calypso-themed ode to Nigel Farage aiming for chart success
A former Radio 1 DJ is hoping to attain chart success after releasing a single called Ukip Calypso.
The ode to Ukip leader Nigel Farage is set to a lilting Caribbean backing and includes such memorable lyrics as: "With the EU we must be on our mettle, want to change our lawnmowers and our kettles".
The man behind the song, Mike Read, spent more than a decade presenting shows on BBC Radio 1, including five years in the breakfast slot.
The former Conservative supporter, who now hosts an afternoon show on BBC Berkshire, also warns his listeners against trusting the Prime Minister in the song:
While it is still early days for the single, which was released today, it has scored five stars among listeners on both Amazon and iTunes.
But bookmakers Paddy Power are offering odds of 50-1 that it will go straight into the charts at Number One.
