Before and after satellite images show destruction in Kobani

Satellite images have revealed the destruction in and around the Syrian town of Kobani.

The border town has seen repeated bombardment by US forces as well as fighting on the ground against Islamic State (IS) militants.

As well as destruction the pictures also show signs of fighting, including road blocks, bomb craters and defensive positions.

There is also evidence of refugees fleeing the fighting.

US aircraft launched another 18 air strikes against Islamic State militants in Syria over the last two days, the US Central Command confirmed.

The strikes focused on Kobani and "successfully struck 16 ISIL occupied buildings", as well as destroying "multiple ISIL fighting positions".
