Olympic legend Sir Chris Hoy said he was "amazed, delighted and a little shocked" as his son Callum was born two months premature.

The cycling gold medallist tweeted a picture of his first child's tiny arm alongside his own finger to show just how small the new member of the family is.

Callum David Robert Hoy was born at 2pm today - 29 weeks into his mother's pregnancy.

Sir Chris was inundated with supportive messages on Twitter, including from fellow Olympian, swimmer Rebecca Adlington.

Since retiring from cycling, Sir Chris has taken up motor racing and is set to compete in the Le Mans 24 hour race in 2016.

"I think maybe I'm just blindly optimistic that it's going to be great fun and dead easy. I'm just very excited," he said.
