Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling has received a mixed reaction from ex-England internationals after complaining of feeling too tired to play for his country.

The 19 year-old was due to start for Roy Hodgson's side in Estonia on Sunday, before asking for a rest and being replaced in the starting line-up by club team-mate Adam Lallana.

Sterling was eventually introduced with 26 minutes left in the second-half, and England went on to win the Euro 2016 qualifier thanks to Wayne Rooney's 75th minute free-kick.

Former England internationals Rio Ferdinand, Phil Neville and Gary Lineker expressed sympathy with Sterling, after he was widely criticsed by fans and pundits on Twitter, but those sentiments were not shared by Alan Shearer.
