FA chairman Greg Dyke won't return £16,500 Fifa gift watch - but says he will give it to charity
FA chairman Greg Dyke has decided not to return the £16,500 watch he was given as a gift at the World Cup in Brazil but will offer it to a charity for auction instead.
He is defying orders from Fifa who want all the watches handed back to their ethics committee.
Dyke, who has recently discovered he owes £3,000 tax on the watch regardless of what he does with it, has decided to defy Fifa, pay the duty and give the watch to this year’s FA charity ‘Breast Cancer Care'.
"I am not going to send it back to the Fifa ethics committee as they have requested," he said.
"I've now been told that I've got to pay £3,000 VAT on this watch regardless of whether I send it back or not.
"So I've decided instead to pay the VAT and give the watch to this year's FA charity."
