Famous faces like Stephen Fry, Nigella Lawson and movie star Tom Hiddleston have taken selfies of themselves and posted them on Twitter to raise funds for Syrian refugees.

Aiming to be the next ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, famous faces are posting the snaps under the hashtag #wakeupcall.

Money raised will go to the UNICEF Syrian children's fund in hopes of providing much needed food, clothes and shelter for young refugees.

Some 9.5 million Syrians are thought to have been displaced by the civil war in Syria, with 3 million having fled the country.

According to the United Nations, 1.5 million of those refugees are thought to be children.

However, not every celebrity was ready for their close up first thing in the morning, as Hugh Grant's hilarious effort showed.
