The Briton jailed in Morocco for being gay has spoken of his fear at what will happen to his friend who is still being held in prison.

Ray Cole told ITV News how him and Moroccan friend Jamal Jam Wald Nass were "literally pulled off the street by some plain-clothes people" before being held for three weeks in "appalling" conditions.

He said the pair, who had known each other since March, were separated and put in "dark, dank" cells with up to 40 people, including children.

The pair were sentenced to four months imprisonment after homosexual images were found on Mr Cole's password-protected phone.

A media campaign helped raised awareness of the Kent grandfather's ordeal and he was released on Tuesday.

But Mr Nass is still behind bars and Mr Cole says he is "very worried" for his safety.

Here he tells ITV News Correspondent Richard Pallot of his ordeal.

Mr Cole said he would not be going back to Morocco any time soon and warned others of the dangers.

"I would suggest anybody who carries a mobile phone should be very careful when visiting these countries because any of us can have images on our phone which would perhaps be liable to cause offence."

And he thanked his family for securing his release saying: "I would like to say thank you very much to my wonderful son and my amazing daughter for the campaign that they raised to get me out of that place.

"And I would like to thank all the news organisations who got behind my case, because without that I'd still be there."
