Comic actor Adam Sandler has signed a deal to star in and produce four films for Netflix.

The films, which will premiere exclusively on the media streaming service, are part of the company's growing push into original movies.

Sandler said in a statement that he agreed to the deal for one reason: "Because Netflix rhymes with wet chicks".

The Hollywood star has appeared in films which have collectively grossed around £1.5 billion in the US.

However, Sandler's latest film, the romantic comedy 'Blended', only managed a total of around £29 million.

The deal follows Netflix's announcement that it will stream a sequel to 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' in August when the film simultaneously opens on Imax screens.
