ECB powerless to to punish Pietersen over book
Surrey have cancelled Kevin Pietersen's contract leaving the English Cricket Board powerless to take disciplinary action against him ahead of the publication of his autobiography next week.
Any revelations that appear in Pietersen's new book KP: The Autobiography will now go unpunished by the ECB as he is a free agent.
His confidentiality agreement with the governing body expired on Wednesday morning, but he has since tweeted saying he will reveal all in his book, released next Thursday.
Despite cancelling his contract Surrey are expected to open talks with Pietersen about a return for the 2015 season.
As a free agent, Pietersen will now be free to play in the Indian Premier League and the Big Bash in Australia without seeking permission from the ECB.
