Author Irvine Welsh has issued an expletive-laden attack on the Chancellor after George Osborne's paraphrased one of his characters in his party conference speech.

Speaking to his party in Birmingham Mr Osborne said that if Trainspotting heroin addict Mark Renton decided not to "choose life", the Chancellor insisted that voters "choose the future" of a Conservative government weaning the country off its own dependence - the welfare state.

However the famously foul-mouthed author took to Twitter to say he would rather be quoted by murderers than the Chancellor:

Later Mr Welsh also tweeted:
