10 things you didn't know about Friends

It has been 20 years to the day since the legendary sitcom Friends aired on TV screens in the US.

You may think you know everything about the show, but here are some fun facts you may not be aware of.

1) The show could have been called Insomnia Cafe or Friends Like Us but after several script rewrites and changes the series was finally named Friends.

2) Bruce Willis appeared in Friends after losing a bet with Matthew Perry on the set of their film The Whole Nine Yards.

3) Monica's apartment and Central Perk do not exist. They were sets at Warner Bros Studios in Burbank, California.

4) The apartment numbers where Chandler and Joey and Monica and Rachel live changed in season one from 4 and 5 to 19 and 20 respectively.

5) The chick was called Little Yasmine and the duck Dick.

6) Different crew members would draw messages on the Magna Doodle which hung on the door of the boys’ apartment before each episode.

7) Marcel the monkey didn't actually dance to The Lion Sleeps Tonight in "The One with all the Poker" episode. It's a tape loop.

8) David Schwimmer, who played Ross Geller, was the first actor to be cast for the show.

9) James Michael Tyler secured the role of Central Perk manager Gunther because he was the only one who could work the coffee machine.
