A woman in Thailand killed herself by jumping into a pond of crocodiles at a popular tourist attraction, Thai police said.

Staff at the Samut Prakan Crocodile Farm tried in vain to rescue the woman after witnessing the incident, the Bangkok Post reported.

The woman was named as 65-year-old Wanpen Inyai, whose family reportedly told police they believed her death was a suicide and that she had been "suffering from stress and depression".

She reportedly took off her shoes before leaping into the pond, which contains hundreds of adult crocodiles.

The Samut Prakan farm, which is also a zoo, lists elephants shows and crocodile wrestling among its attractions. The Bangkok Post said that other similar suicides had allegedly occurred at the same venue in the past.
