A friend of both Reeva Steenkamp and Oscar Pistorius said the couple were "very loving" when he was with them.

Boxer Kevin Lerena denied Pistorius was controlling and told Good Morning Britain the sports star and model were "really getting along well" when he last saw them together, around three months before Reeva's death.

Mr Lerena, who had been a friend of Reeva's for a long time, said "only two people know" what happened on Valentine's Day last year, when the law graduate was shot dead at Pistorius' home.

Mr Lerena was questioned during Pistorius' trial, and told the Pretoria court the sprinter had asked him to take the blame after accidentally firing a gun in Johannesburg restaurant.

The South African Paralympian was found guilty of discharging a firearm in the restaurant.

"Bladerunner" Pistorius sobbed quietly in the dock as Judge Thokozile Masipa cleared him of all murder charges yesterday.

The double amputee admitted firing his 9mm through a bathroom door at his Pretoria home, but said he believed there to be an intruder in the house.

Mr Lerena remained steadfast in his support for "role model" Pistorius in terms of what he had achieved as an athlete.
