Tourist video captures violent volcanic eruption in Papua New Guinea
A boatload of tourists in Papua New Guinea witnessed an amazing spectacle when a volcano blew its top right in front of them.
A video captured by one of the spectators shows thick grey smoke pouring from Mount Tavurvur before a huge bang shakes the camera.
The volcano is on the northern tip of New Britain island and has a history of violent eruptions. In 1994, an outburst destroyed the nearby town of Rabaul.
In the latest eruption, residents near the volcano were evacuated and residents of Rabaul advised to stay indoors. There were also fears of disruption to air travel in Australia, according to media reports.
The eruption happened on 29th August and the video has been viewed more than seven million times since it was uploaded on Friday.
