Incredibly rare blue lobster caught by American teen
They usually come in red but one American teen has defied the odds and caught a bright blue lobster.
Meghan LaPlante pulled the colourful crustacean from one of the 150 lobster pots she keeps near her home in Scarborough, Maine on Saturday, according to her Facebook page.
She said she was calling him Skyler because that is her favourite name.
Her father Jay, who helps his daughter with her business told the Portland Press Herald newspaper that he had never seen anything like it.
"It definitely stood out," he said.
Only about 1 in 2 million lobsters is blue, according to the Lobster Institute at the University of Maine.
Skyler's rare colour has spared him from the pot and instead Meghan will donate him to the Maine State Aquarium.
