The fatal shooting by police of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown in St Louis on Saturday has sparked a social media campaign by black Americans under the hashtag #IfTheyGunnedMeDown

As the hashtag implies, Twitter users have been posting two images of themselves: a "stereotypical" picture, and another - often a graduation photo or in military uniform.

The campaign reflects the ongoing tension between African-Americans and law enforcement in some parts of the US.

@TopFlightRod asked in a tweet that has been retweeted 980 times: "would I be labeled an honor grad[uate] or a blunt smokah"?
