A player in the United States has become the first footballer to get a yellow card for taking a selfie.

English-born Dom Dwyer scored the opening goal for his Major League Soccer side Sporting Kansas City and then promptly dashed to the advertising hoardings where he was handed a mobile phone.

The former Norwich City striker then snapped a selfie with teammate Soony Saad against a backdrop of delighted young fans.

Whilst many in the stadium for the 1-1 draw against Chicago Fire saw the funny side of Dwyer's actions, the referee didn't and promptly issued a yellow card to the 23-year-old for his 'excessive' celebration.
