The owner of the registration plate 'F1' has put it up for sale for more than £10 million - enough to buy 1,000 brand new models of the Ford Fiesta.

Afzal Kahn paid a British record £440,000 when he bought the desirable registration plate in 2008.

At the time it was seen a staggering price to pay for a vanity plate, but the Bradford-based businessman believes it to be a canny investment.

Update: Since this article was published, Mr Kahn has made it known that the number plate is no longer for sale and the advert has been removed.

F1 is being marketed by registration company Regtransfers, which is asking for a very precise £10,009,995 for the plate.

The astonishing figure for the 109-year-old registration is almost enough to buy the entire village of Bentham, in Devon, which recently went on the market for £11 million.

The plate was previously on a more modest Volvo S80 and was used by the chairman of Essex County Council when Kahn bought it in 2008.

'F1' now makes up part of Mr Kahn's impressive plate collection which includes the registrations '4HRH' and 'NO1'.
