The world's oldest cat has died, just weeks after being awarded the title.

At 24, Poppy became a Guinness world record holder in May after being recognised as the world's oldest cat. In 'human years' she was approximately 114 years old.

The elderly moggy was born in February 1990, the same month Nelson Mandela was released from prison and Sinead O'Connor's 'Nothing Compares To You' spent four weeks at number one.

But she passed away last Friday, her owners said, after a problem with her hind legs and a urinary tract infection. Her human family are said to be devastated.
