A woman was nearly robbed on camera while being interviewed about crime in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. A reporter for TV Globo, a Brazilian national television station, was interviewing the woman when the would-be thief approached and tried to snatch her necklace.

The video showed the thief fleeing down a busy street as the reporter gave chase.

The woman managed to save her necklace and escaped with a scratched neck.

Police have stepped up security ahead of this year's World Cup with thousands of police officers and Brazilian Marines visible in the city's labyrinth of slums.

However, some residents are still wary of walking in public.

"I don't carry anything anymore, only the bus fare and that's it," said one resident.
