Britons are increasingly spending their money on online streaming, canvas shoes and flavoured milk, according to new analysis of the nation's spending.

The new official "basket of goods" also indicates the nation is falling out of love with hardwood flooring and wallpaper paste, but has an increasing taste for fruit snacking pots and honey.

Economics Editor Richard Edgar reports on how our habits change:

Perhaps unsurprisingly, spending on DVD recorders has fallen in recent years, with consumers increasingly turning to streaming sites such as Netflix or Blinkbox - now included in the 699 products or services listed.

Each year, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) updates its basket, which is used to analyse the change in prices of the things British people spend their money on.

As well as reflecting a nation's tastes, the basket is used to calculate the headline rate of CPI inflation - which in turn can help dictate things like pay rises, and savings rates.

Here's a selection of what's made its way in:

  • Flavoured milk

  • Fresh fruit snacking pot

  • Honey

  • Mixer drink

  • Interchangeable lens digital camera

  • Video on demand subscription services

  • Fashion necklace

And what's been pushed out:

  • Wallpaper paste

  • Hardwood flooring

  • Gardeners' fees

  • DVD recorder

  • After school club charges
