Eight people are confirmed to have died after a police helicopter crashed into the roof of a pub in Glasgow, police have said.

Another 14 people are in hospital with serious injuries following the crash at the Clutha pub at 22.25pm on Friday night.

A recovery operation is continuing to recover the remaining bodies from the scene.

Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond has expressed his sympathies to the bereaved and injured and said it "a black day for Glasgow, and for Scotland".
