Police in Toronto, Canada have obtained a video that appears to show the city's mayor, Rob Ford, smoking a crack pipe.

Supporters of the beleaguered mayor have called on police to release the video, after Police Chief Bill Blair said he was "disappointed" in the mayor when announcing its discovery to media.

The video was recovered from a computer hard drive during an investigation into drug trafficking, but no charges have been brought against Mr Ford.

Toronto's mayor told reporters he had "no reason to resign", but added: "I wish I could come out an defend myself, unfortunately I can't because it's before the courts".
