Ben Whishaw could swap Q for Queen by playing Freddie Mercury in a film about the singer's life.

The band are hoping he will take the role which was originally due to be played by Sacha Baron Cohen, until the Borat star pulled out.

Whishaw recently became known for his portrayal of Q in last year's James Bond film Skyfall.

Queen drummer Roger Taylor told Chris Evans and Alex Jones on Friday's One Show on BBC1 that the actor they hoped would take the part has the initials BW.

When Jones suggested Whishaw's name Taylor confirmed: "Well, we hope so."
