Scandal-hit New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner appeared to mock Daybreak's Lucy Watson in a Monty Python jibe when she asked why he was still running in spite of plummeting poll ratings.

In the latest of a series of gaffes, Weiner told the reporter, "It's hard to take you seriously", and then proceeded to answer some of her questions in a fake British accent.

When she asked Weiner whether it was his "hunger" for the mayoral role that kept him from quitting the race, he said, "I just have a feeling I've like stepped into a Monty Python bit ... 'I don't know would anything stop me?' Now is a rock going to fall on my head?"

The disgraced former US congressman also offered, "Is there anything else I can do for ITV? Do you want me to do the weather or something?" and delivered a mock forecast to the camera.

Weiner's poll ratings nose dived after revelations that he continued to exchange sexually explicit messages online after resigning from Congress in 2011 due to a similar scandal.

Before his run-in with Watson, Weiner asked an NBC News reporter, "What are you working on?" When the reporter said he was following him to cover the campaign, Weiner responded, "Dude, you got to get a hobby."

He also made a tongue-in-cheek remark that he views the press as "just one big cuddly collection of humanity," adding, "I think of you all fondly."

A Quinnipiac College poll released last week had Weiner in fourth place with 16% - frontrunner City Council Speaker Christine Quinn had 27%.
