Mourners at the funeral of Bernie Nolan were told not to cry too much because "no-one has had a better life" than the singer and actress who died of cancer earlier this month.

Well-wishers lined the streets outside the Grand Theatre in her hometown of Blackpool where a ceremony to celebrate her life was held and broadcast over loudspeakers for fans.

They greeted the funeral cortege with applause and listened to her sister Maureen who read from a letter written by Bernie where she told mourners: "I think I'm worth a little crying but not too much. No-one has had a better life than me."

Bernie's daughter, Erin, also gave a reading before the coffin left the building by the stage door.
