A hairdresser from South Carolina has been crowned the winner of the 2013 Toilet Paper Wedding Dress competition in New York.

Mimoza Haska's dress beat more than a thousand entries to win the $2,000 prize.

The annual event challenges budding designers to create a gown using only toilet paper, tape, glue and a needle and thread.

The competition started nine years ago by bridal money saving website, Cheap Chic Weddings, based on a hen party game popular in the US.

As the contest has increased in popularity each year, so to has the level of competition, says founder Susan Bain.

Mimoza said her swan like dress was inspired by her love of fashion and crafts. The judges said although their decision was not easy, the winning gown stood out due to the detail of the design.
