Tough TV inquisitor Jeremy Kyle admits he broke down in tears in front of doctors before his cancer surgery.

Kyle, who recently got the all-clear after treatment for testicular cancer, said his illness was a "defining" moment for him and his wife Carla.

He told Jonathan Ross:

Kyle said his on-screen persona does not work at home: "You know when I go home, let's be honest, I don't wear the trousers. There isn't a man in the United Kingdom who's married who's telling the truth who says that his wife isn't in charge. You've met Mrs Kyle, Mrs Kyle is in charge."

He said his show, which is famous for its confrontational style and use of lie detectors, is worth it if it helps one person.

:: The Jonathan Ross Show is on ITV1 at 9.20pm tonight.
