Reese Witherspoon left 'deeply embarrassed' over arrest
Hollywood star Reese Witherspoon has said she is "deeply embarrassed" by her "disrespectful" behaviour after being arrested by police in Atlanta.
It began when her husband, Hollywood agent Jim Toth, was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
But Witherspoon was also arrested because she refused to stay in the car while her husband carried out a US drink-drive test.
According to the police report, her partner had "droopy eyelids, watery, bloodshot eyes and his breath smelled strongly of alcohol".
After getting out the car twice the police report says Witherspoon:
Her husband was then charged with drink-driving.
Reese Witherspoon got out again, and after being told to return to the car, the report says she "Stated that she was a 'US citizen' and that she was allowed to 'stand on American ground".
Witherspoon is then quoted as saying:
Toth and Witherspoon were then taken into custody. The actress didn't mention the incident at a New York premiere on Sunday night.
