Holidaymakers are being scammed out of 1.5 million pounds every year according to a report out today.

Forty five per cent of frauds reported to police last year involved aeroplane tickets, 33% were people scammed when booking accommodation and, worryingly, 19% of people in one survey said they would not think twice about putting money directly into someone's private account.

The Association of British Travel Agents advises people should check they are booking on a secure site, pay by credit card and look for the ATBA, or similar, logos.

Daybreak spoke to students from St Mary's college in Blackburn who are flying to Dublin with their class.

All said they would not really know what to look for to protect themselves online and would pay direct to an owner's bank account.
