Morning commuters should give themselves some extra time either to scrape away the frost or sit in the rush hour a little longer - be cautious of icy stretches, especially on back roads where we have had any rain, sleet or snow.

Through the day southern areas are expected to see further snow accumulations. Brighter in the north but frequent wintry showers have also been forecast to come inland off of the North Sea.

Wherever you are it is winter woolly weather with a lot of places struggling to reach one degree Celsius, and a bitter easterly wind really accentuating an already raw day.

The wintry grip will gradually loosen through this week but don't pack your warm clothes away too quickly.

Some unsettled weather is due this Thursday coming in from the west and it could still be a little wintry in nature for a time.
