One of the women at the centre of the Lord Rennard allegations has told ITV News she believes Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg has "shifted his position" over the matter.

Alison Smith, a politics lecturer at Oxford University, is one of the women who accuses the former chief executive of the Lib Dems of inappropriate behaviour.

Lord Rennard denies the allegations.

Smith also told ITV News she was ready to speak to the police after it emerged that Scotland Yard had been called in to look at the claims.

She said she preferred the language Lib Dem president Tim Farron was using to describe the allegations, and that Nick Clegg should drop the legalese used in his statement.

Mr Clegg has said he was aware of "non-specific concerns" regarding Lord Rennard in 2008 and that action had been taken at the time.
