The winners of the 19th Screen Actors Guild Awards have been announced, with more success for the Brits, as Daniel Day-Lewis and the cast of Downton Abbey took home prizes.

Continuing his success at the Golden Globes, Day-Lewis was awarded best lead male actor for his portrayal of America's 16th president, Abraham Lincoln.

Collecting the award, he joked: "It was an actor that murdered Abraham Lincoln… And therefore somehow it's only fitting that every now and then an actor tries to bring him back to life again."

More success for the cast of ITV's Downton Abbey, winning outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series.

Speaking on behalf of the cast and crew, an overwhelmed Phyllis Logan who plays housekeeper Mrs Hughes, gushed: "We are so not expecting this!"

She thanked the show's creator Julian Fellowes, as well as the crew, "we wouldn't be a proper ensemble without our crew, who are amazing."

Other winners included, Oscar favourite Anne Hathaway, as best supporting female actress, and Jennifer Lawrence who won best female for her role in Silver Linings Playbook.

Ben Affleck's Argo was awarded the top prize, for best cast in a motion picture, following on from the film's surprise win at the Golden Globes earlier this month.

Collecting the prize, actor/director Affleck said: "To me this has nothing to do with me, it has to do with the incredible people who were in this movie."
