'Near-perfect' score for Eddie 'The Eagle's' Splash! dive
Veteran Olympian Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards will by vying for glory again when he takes part in the final of ITV's diving talent show Splash!
The former ski jumper came top of the leader board in tonight's nail-biting semi-finals, achieving the first 10 of the series from judge and comedian Jo Brand for his one-and-a-half somersault dive -and a nearly-perfect 9.5 from both Team GB coach Andy Banks and former Olymoic diving medallist Leon Taylor.
Brand describe it as simply "amazing", asking Edwards: "Is there anything you can't do?"
Interior designer Linda Barker also stormed through into the finals, the only woman to do so alongside "The Eagle" and British actor Jake Canuso.
Before carrying out her inward dive with tuck, 51-year-old Barker said it was "incredibly scary" to be diving from the 10 metre board, but was rewarded for her bravery with a score of 25.5 out of 30.
Benidorm star Canuso won the splash-off against comedian Omid Djalili and Sky Sports presenter Charlotte Jackson, despite saying he was put off his final dive after becoming "confused" by the studio lights.
Next Saturday's final will see the contestants perform a synchronised dive with Olympic bronze medallist and competition mentor Tom Daley, before one of them is voted the overall winner.
One contestant who failed to make a splash was Olympic boxer Anthony Ogogo, who pulled out of the competition due to an injury, despite qualifying for the semi-final.
Describing himself as being in a lot of pain, he added: "I want to be a world champion one day. I've got to think about that more than anything."
