Ten children were killed after being hit by a suspected cluster bomb as they played outside their homes in a village near the Syrian capital of Damascus.

Activists say Syrian warplanes bombed the village of Deir al-Asafir, just outside the Syrian capital.

The village is close to suburbs of Damascus that has been witnessing clashes, shelling and air raids between troops and rebels over the past months.

This report from International Editor Bill Neely contains distressing images of injured children.

The Syrian crisis has killed up to 40,000 people, including hundreds of children, according to the United Nations.
