James Bond movie Skyfall has become the biggest box office hit of the year and the highest grossing 007 film yet in the UK.

In less than a fortnight, the 23rd Bond film has taken £57 million at UK cinemas, surpassing the previous record for Casino Royale set in 2006 with £55.6 million.

Until now the biggest cinema hit of the year in the UK had been Batman movie The Dark Knight.

Producer Barbara Broccoli said:

The film sees Bond on the trail of warped villain Raoul Silva, played by Javier Bardem, as he wreaks havoc on MI6 in an effort to even a score with M.

It is Daniel Craig's third outing as the Agent 007. Watch ITV News Correspondent Nina Nannar's interview with him here.

Skyfall is due for release in US cinemas tomorrow.
