Irish teen Jade Collins wows The X Factor judges
Irish hopeful Jade Collins wowed the judges on The X Factor with her rendition of Sweet Dreams by Beyonce, but not before breaking down in tears as she confessed that her father had never got to hear her sing as he had always been in-and-out of jail.
The 17-year-old said: "'Today’s audition is so important, this could really, really change things in my life, I’d just be much happier if my daddy was here to see this.
"'I’ve just always dreamt of being here and now I am, it’s just hard to believe."
The Belfast-born teenager's performance won the judges over, particularly Louis Walsh. He said: "Jade, you are so wrong and you are so emotional, it’s like you’ve got so much pain inside."
Fellow judge Tulisa added: "We always look for a spark when someone steps on stage, where you just go there is something here and it's something special and I saw that in you today."
Elsewhere on the show, Gary Barlow was on the receiving end of a foul-mouthed blast by a retired rock 'n' roller when he criticises his singing on tonight's show. The Take That man tells retired kitchen porter Nick Buss he is not impressed with his cover of a Buddy Holly song.
But the 70-year-old from Chiswick, west London, does not take kindly to his remarks telling him: "You're entitled to your f opinion."
He does not spare the rest of the X Factor panel either, telling Dermot O'Leary the panel "don't know what they are talking about" and blaming "that f Tulisa".
Tonight kick-started the ratings battle between The X Factor and BBC1's Strictly Come Dancing, although the two programmes managed to avoid a head-to-head clash.
Strictly Come Dancing presenters Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly revealed which pros the celebrity contestants would be dancing with throughout the competition. Before the big reveal, the stars had been teamed with a number of partners in rehearsals as they find their feet.
This series contestants are paired up with the following dance partners:

TV personality Denise Van Outen has been partnered with James Jordan
TV presenter Johnny Ball has been paired with last year's winner Aliona Vilani
Westlife's Nicky Byrne will be dancing with newcomer Karen Hauer
Girls Aloud singer Kimberley Walsh has been partnered with Pasha Kovalev, who was runner-up on last year's show with actress Chelsee Healey
Former James Bond star Colin Salmon has been paired with Kristina Rihanoff
Former model Jerry Hall has been matched with equally tall dancer Anton Du Beke
Children's TV star Dani Harmer has been paired up with Vincent Simone
Olympic gymnast Louis Smith has been partnered with Flavia Cacace, who last year was paired up with comedy contestant Russell Grant
TV presenter Fern Britton will dance with 2010 winner Artem Chigvintsev

Daybreak's Richard Arnold will be partner to Erin Boag
TV presenter Johnny Ball - who at 74 is the oldest ever contestant to take part in the show - groaned when he was told he would be dancing with last year's winner Aliona Vilani.
He explained: "Only because we danced together in training and I kept getting it wrong."
Former James Bond star Colin Salmon has been paired with Kristina Rihanoff, even though at 6ft 4in he is almost a foot taller than her.
But Rihanoff dismissed any concern, saying: "Listen, he's a handsome, tall man so he needs to dance with his height and I'm just going to make it work. This is my job, it's going to be fine.
"What's great with actors is they can put on any role and that's brilliant because this show is about entertainment, not just about dancing."
